Are You a Carer? Let Us Know
We recognise the vital role that unpaid carers play in supporting family members, friends, or neighbours who are ill, disabled, elderly, or experiencing mental health or addiction issues. If you look after someone who couldn’t manage without your help, you are a carer— and we want to support you.
Why We Ask Carers to Register with Us
By registering as a Carer at our surgery, you help us ensure that you get the information, services, and support you may need. Here’s why it’s important:
-
Better Support for You: Caring can be physically and emotionally demanding. We can provide health advice, flu vaccinations, and information about Carer breaks and local support services.
-
Emergency Planning: If something happens and you’re suddenly unable to care for your loved one, we can help arrange support more quickly if we know your caring role in advance.
-
Information and Advice: We can keep you updated about local Carer groups, counselling services, and financial or practical help.
-
Whole-Person Care: Understanding your caring responsibilities helps us take your situation into account when discussing your health and wellbeing.
Who Counts as a Carer?
You might be a Carer if you:
-
Provide regular support to someone with a long-term condition, disability, or mental health issue
-
Help someone with daily tasks such as shopping, cooking, or attending appointments
-
Are a young person helping to care for a family member
-
Look after someone who is elderly and frail
You don’t need to live with the person or be receiving carer’s allowance to be considered a carer.
