Gender Identity

Information for Transgender

Updating your details

You can request to change gender on your record at any time, and do not need to have undergone any form of gender reassignment treatment to do so. Changing your name will not automatically change the gender marker on your medical record, you need to let us know if you also want this to be changed.

We make a request to PCSE for this to happen on your behalf. When your gender has changed you will be issued with a new NHS number (which is not reversible) and registered at the practice as a ‘new patient’.

All previous medical information relating to the patient will be transferred into a newly created medical record. The practice will notify the PCSE (Primary Care Support England) and we must make you aware of the possible time scales and implications of changing the gender marker (e.g. changes to recalls for cancer screening services) please see the NHS website for details.
