Collection of Semen (Sperm) Samples for Fertility and Post-Vasectomy Investigations
If you have been referred for semen analysis, please read the following instructions carefully to ensure accurate results and avoid the need for repeat appointments.
Before Your Appointment

Arrival: Please arrive on time. If you are delayed, contact the Andrology Department on 023 9228 6799. Late arrivals may result in the need to rebook your appointment.

Abstinence: You must abstain from intercourse or masturbation for at least 2 days (48 hours), but no longer than 7 days before your appointment.
Failure to follow this will invalidate the test and require rebooking.

Vasectomy Patients Only:
At the Appointment

On arrival, report to Pathology Reception. A member of the Andrology team will meet you, guide you to the private room, and provide final instructions.

Producing the Sample:

Use the private room provided in the Pathology Department.

Masturbate directly into the sterile container provided.
-
The entire ejaculate must be collected for accurate analysis.

Do not use lubricants or condoms, as they can damage the sample.

After providing your sample, wash your hands again.

Please note that a fee is payable for vasectomy reversal tests.

To cancel or reschedule, please call the Andrology Department on 023 9228 6799 as soon as possible.
Directions to Pathology Department (Queen Alexandra Hospital)

Enter via the North Entrance.

Follow signs to Lift Area 8.

Go to E Floor using the lift or stairs.

Follow signs through the link corridor to the Pathology Centre.

Go through two sets of double doors, follow signs to Pathology Reception, and report your arrival.
